Does your teenager have a safe place to PROCESS + express their emotions?

The RSI Method for Teens

The ongoing stress, fear, grief and uncertainty caused by the pandemic has weighed heavily on teenagers. Many are having a tough time coping emotionally which is why The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) declared a national state of emergency for child and adolescent mental health as of October 2021.

The teenage years are in constant flux. This is a time when teens are trying new things and developing who they are.

Emotions are challenging to navigate even for us as adults.

No one likes to feel negative feelings like humiliation, sadness, or anger. But ignoring and avoiding how you feel can make things worse. Once you start acknowledging and dealing with how you truly feel, you will find yourself living a less stressful and healthier life.

Luckily we know now that we suffer when we aren't able to complete the cycle of an emotion. Neuroscientist Jill Bolte-Taylor explains that the physiological lifespan of an emotion in the body and brain is 90 seconds. Dismissing, holding and hiding emotions can lead to self-blaming, blaming others, anxiety, depression, mental exhaustion, and withdrawing from social activities. On the flipside, allowing your teen to process an emotion without judgment helps them build self-confidence, independence, creativity, self-advocacy and self-trust.

As teenagers navigate adolescence, it can be difficult for them to open up and talk about their feelings.

It’s up to parents and caregivers to provide safe spaces for their teens to process and express their emotions. Often they don't feel comfortable talking about it or they don't know how to put their feelings into words — which is why physical movement is necessary to release trapped emotions in the body.

Now more than ever, it’s important to help teenagers find safe and creative ways to process and release their emotions.

The RSI Method [Virtual] is here to help them through physical, vocal and breathing practices.

What is the rsi method?

Release Physically | Support Emotionally | Inspire Humanity

This method is more than just fitness — it’s where your teenager can safely and creatively express their emotions through physical movement, vocal activation and breathing practices. A space where they won't feel pressure to act or look a certain way. A space where they can show up exactly as they are. These are fun, music driven classes where your child will be completely safe and supported without judgment. In this method, your teen will strengthen, move, dance, shake, vocalize, sweat, release, laugh, scream, moan, roar and even cry. With practice, this method will build self-confidence, self-trust, independence, creativity and self-advocacy in your teenager. They will walk away with tools to help them manage this wild, MESSY and beautiful life.

Release Physically

The body knows what the mind holds. That’s why physical movement is a critical practice in releasing trapped emotions. Guided movement allows your teen to express without having to use words. They are encouraged to listen to the feedback their body gives them in order to move how they feel like moving that day. This practice will keep them healthy, strengthen their mind-body connection, teach them how to speak their truth and awaken more curiosity and wonder in their life.

Support Emotionally

Emotions that aren’t dealt with may become stored in their unconscious, and may even affect them physically. This is a safe space where they practice leaning into and celebrating discomfort, resistance, vulnerability, anger, anxiety, frustration, sadness, and awkwardness. Your teen has a space to show up exactly as they are — they don't need to pretend, hide or bury. They will learn to love themselves completely — including their messy parts. They will see that they are not alone in their messiness by witnessing others.

Inspire Humanity

The method closes with gratitude for their commitment to prioritizing themselves and for choosing to create a positive relationship to their body and the physical world. They will begin to cultivate compassion toward themselves and others by dedicating these teachings to all beings everywhere with no exception. The moment they walk out of their bedroom, their attitude will be changed and the best part — they begin to inspire others to do the same.

How your teen shows up in this method is a direct reflection of how they show up in life. The RSI METHOD will guide them toward a more truthful expression of themselves.

This is their time to have a safe temper tantrum, a good scream, a belting cry, be messy, and weird without judgment.

When they surrender to this method with curiosity and wonder, they begin to unlock the wisdom, potential and strength that are already within them.
